Screenwriters: Ivan Passer

Institute History

  • 1985 Sundance Film Festival

Description

In Passer’s first and only Czech feature film (after having scripted three films for Milos Forman) is an unpretentious, day-in-the-life story of two old friends, disillusioned musicians, who reunite after many years in the seclusion of a country home. Passer’s comic timing is subtle but very effective and, like many Czech filmmakers of this period, his attention to the details and absurdities of daily life is exceptional.

Preceded by A Boring Afternoon (Czechoslovakia, 1965, 14 min.) Passer’s first short film poking fun at Czech bourgeoisie is anything but what its title suggests.
