  • 2016 Sundance Film Festival

Description

American Epic is a four-part series that takes us on a journey across time to the birth of modern music—a moment when the musical strands of a diverse nation were first collected and combined, thereby sparking a cultural revolution that forever transformed the future of music and the world.

Presented in partnership with Sundance Institute Film Music Program led by Peter Golub, this multidimensional evening is designed to celebrate a much-anticipated episodic work. Clips from the film include astonishing archival footage, rare historic recordings, and contributions from some of today’s great artists. There will be an extended onstage conversation with the creators including executive producers Robert Redford, T Bone Burnett, and Jack White. There will also be be a third component of live performances filling out this lineup, featuring The Avett Brothers and other special music guests. This not-to-be-missed night speaks volumes of the diverse and eclectic American creative spirit.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
