Planned Parenthood: Storytelling as Activism

Tuesday, January 28, 3:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
The Box at The Ray, 1768 Park Ave.

Many people learn about sexual and reproductive health and rights through entertainment media—that’s why authentic storytelling in film and television is more important than ever. This panel will bring together content creators and activists to share how they use the power of entertainment to open hearts and minds and create change. Moderated by Amy Goodman, host and executive producer of Democracy Now!, the panel features Rayka Zehtabchi, Academy Award–winning director of Period. End of Sentence.; Renee Bracey Sherman, founder of We Testify; Eliza Hittman, writer and director of Never Rarely Sometimes Always; Janet Goldwater, writer and co-director of Abortion Helpline, This Is Lisa; and Caren Spruch, senior director of arts and entertainment engagement at Planned Parenthood. The panel will also include a screening of a new short film directed by Zehtabchi and produced by Planned Parenthood, We Testify, and Ventureland Productions.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
