People Who Make it Happen: Producing and Financing the Independent Film

Raising the money for an independent feature has gotten more complex. It is now necessary for filmmakers to understand all areas of the worldwide market to meet the demands of an ever-more-discriminating group of financiers and buyers. This panel will feature executives who orchestrate the day-to-day decisions that make films happen. U.S. independent distributors, cable networks, video distributors and foreign producers are among those who will be represented. Moderated by Seth Willenson, the discussion will focus on real financing and buying experiences. Willenson has been an executive in the entertainment business for twenty-one years. Since starting his own managment-consulting firm three years ago, he has produced three feature films, including Gas. Food Lodging, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, and supervised the release of over twenty-five feature films.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
