Social Justice Warrior

Description

Harper Penzig is 19 years-old, white, straight, middle-class and knows exactly how to fix society. After getting woke during her freshman year writing seminar, Harper embarks on a crusade for social justice. During a class lecture, Professor Susan Brodbeck uses the word "ugly," which Harper finds sexist, cissexist, racist, patriarchal, privileged and misogynistic. Susan, despite being a bleeding-heart liberal, disagrees and their debate over what is and isn't offensive language escalates until it engulfs the entire campus. Harper organizes the students against Susan and the school's administration. Susan, on the brink of losing tenure, turns to conservative media to help her fight back. As the students and the administration choose sides, Harper and Susan's lives fall apart in an ideological war fought on campus and online over the right way to stop sexism, cissexism, racism, the patriarchy, privilege and misogyny.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
