Description

Eliseo Subiela, the acclaimed director of the remarkable Man Facing Southeast, returns with the equally provocative Last Images of the Shipwreck. Made with the unique and disturbing cinematic vision which was so haunting and moving ill the earlier film, Last Images of the Shipwreck places the visionary Hugo Soto at its center, this time playing Robert, a forty-year-old insurance agent living a rather grey and unexciting life. Trapped in a ten-year-old marriage which has gone sour, Robert also dreams of writing a major novel.

One day, while waiting for the subway train, he sees a woman he is convinced is about to commit suicide. He grabs her arm and stops her. Later on, when the woman has persuaded him to share a meal, he discovers that the suicide act is, in fact, 8 carefully rehearsed routine enabling her to obtain customers. Robert believes he has discovered the long-lost theme of his novel. His growing relationship with her and her family takes him into the suburb's which resemble the end of the world. All of Subiela's powers are in full evidence in this finely honed, beautifully achieved film.
