The Business of Strangers

Description

THE BUSINESS OF STRANGERS is a dark drama about a successful business woman and her new assistant stuck in an airport hotel, telling lies, raising hell, and playing with dim-witted businessmen.

Julie Styron thinks she is going to be fired but instead discovers that she is being promoted to CEO. Stranded in a hotel at the airport, she wants to celebrate but finds only the company of her new assistant, Paula, a disaffected recent college grad. The two set upon the task of having a good time.

As the night progresses they get to know each other. They drink, they flirt, they lie, personal flaws are exposed, the drink some more. But when they capture an unsuspecting businessman, the relationship turn into something else—a complex battle of power and authority.

In the end, Julie comes to terms with the sacrifices she has made to fight her way up the corporate ladder. But this realization come too late. Coming to terms with who she really is one thing and actually changing is another.

Among other things, the film is an exploration of the effects of corporate culture, notions of conformity, the subtle tension between women of different generations, and the idea of gaining self knowledge through transgression.
