Description
Hopi: Songs of the Fourth World may be the most beautiful and reflective film ever done by, for, or about Native Americans. The film states at the outset it will not focus on the problems or conflicts of the Hopis, but will instead attempt to look at the positive and holistic aspects of their lifestyle, so that we may all better understand their unique perspective of the world we too inhabit. This documentary succeeds in showing us their harmonious lives in ways beyond our wildest imagination.
Told in a vivid visual style with elements of poetry, creation stories and interviews, the film transcends one’s won experience and culture and allow you to glimpse an ancient culture, one which may have some very instructive lessons for us all. Not only do we come away with a keener awareness of another culture, we come away with a greater sense of our selves and a fresh appreciation for the reverence and interdependence of life. this film is powerful medicine for a society seemingly bent on a path of self-destruction. It is beautiful and revealing, a rare delicate film, completely faithful to its subject.
