Description
The search for love in the big city is an age-old quest that has been explored in numerous films. However, rarely have they been able to capture the minute details which endear characters to an audience. In Ed's Next Move, first-time director John Walsh has created a magnificently accurate portrait of an everyman looking for meaning and substance in an often confusing and frustrating world.
Matt Ross portrays Eddie Brodsky, a rice geneticist from Wisconsin who has just been dumped by his fiancée and moves to Manhattan looking for a fresh start. There he encounters the infinite obstacles life in the big city presents, ranging from apartment hunting to dealing with public-waste authorities. Amidst the adjustment, he becomes infatuated with Lee (Calliope Thorne), a mesmerizing, but guarded, musician who is slowly drawn to Eddie’s sincere, rather awkward advances. Their relationship unfolds with complete honesty, due in part to amazingly genuine performances by the two leads. Staying away from clichés and instead focusing intently on incidents which everyone can relate to, Walsh has created a refreshingly open and humorous look at a universal experience.
