The Wood

Institute History

Description

The wedding is set. The bride is beaming. The parents are nervous. Everything is ready to go, except the groom. It is six hours before the wedding and Roland Blackman is nowhere to be found. This is the event that sends THE WOOD off and running.

Mike Flemming and Slim Turner, Roland's life-long best friends, set out to find him. While they search, Mike tells us about the boys' early years in Inglewood, California, where African American families of all classes interact. The story deals with the boys' friendship and curiosities, from schoolyard fights to first loves.

THE WOOD is about the majority of young African American males who are not in gangs or selling drugs. It is about the confusion, uncertainty and self-discovery that all people go through during the heightened time in our lives called adolescence.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
