Description
Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote the original screenplay with dialogue assistance from Carlos Fuentes, and if the swift narrative is reminiscent of Chronicle of a Death Foretold, it should be remembered that this successful version is earlier, earthier and a lot more authentic than that recent multinational spectacle,
Tiempo de Morir, a superior melodrama, looks and plays like a classic American western, and in a literal sense, of course, it is one: this time the dusty "frontier" town is Colombia, Revenge is the furious motive that ignites a lean series of events whose gunfight climax is as inevitable as it is mythic, On the vigorous sidelines, women, crusty old characters and even horses play choruses of different sorts. Tiempo de Morir is a romance about honor and its machismo subversion.
Jorge Ali Triana studied theatre in Prague, and returned to Bogota to found The Popular Theatre, where he directed about forty productions. For television, he completed a series entitled "Bolivar: Man of Conflicts," and also made a number of short documentary films. Tiempo de Morir is Triana's debut feature film.
