Description

When an aging travel writer sets out to hike the 2,100-mile-long Appalachian Trail with a long-estranged high school buddy, the duo learn that some roads are better left untraveled.

Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, two icons of cinema, are a perfect comedic pair, bringing their characters to life with exceptional nuance. As the two face off with each other and an eccentric assortment of characters, the grand trail proves to be an epic journey. Emma Thompson brilliantly counterbalances their antics as the patient companion, wise enough to let them go on this ill-conceived journey. As moving as it is playful, A Walk in the Woods proves that amid the glory of stunning vistas and Appalachian wildlife, the untamed human condition can be just as formidable. —T.B.
