Doing More with Less: How Digital Production Tools Are Expanding Creative Opportunities

What are the pros and cons of using new digital technologies for documentary and feature productions? What are the costs and where are the savings? Filmmakers reveal how they are using the latest digital tools creatively. View footage from TV programs made with inexpensive digital camcorders and theatrical feature, digital from start to finish. How can innovative digital postproduction techniques cut the expenses of special effects and sound? Can the on-line be done on the desktop? Panelists include Herb Ferrette, editor and postproduction supervisor of The Fight in the Fields; Frank Grow, the writer/director of Love God; Sheila Hayman, a documentary writer and director for BBC and Channel Four; and Ben Shapiro, documentary producer and cameraman. The panel will be moderated by Jonathan Wells, cofounder and director of the Low Res Digital Film Festival.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
