The Internet without the Hype: What Filmmakers Need to Know Now

This panel offers a no-nonsense antidote to the hyperbole, confusion, and fantasy about independents in cyberspace. Filmmakers using the Web and webmasters running outstanding film sites will present an up-to-the-minute guide to what independents can expect to achieve on-line. Is it possible to find financing and distribution on the Internet? What are the best on-line research and production resources? How useful is the Web for marketing and sales? What are the costs and benefits of a website? Where can valuable information be found daily? Can electronic film communities be helpful? These are just
some of the questions to be addressed by the panel made up of Doug Block, director of Home Page and The Heck with Hollywood! and coproducer of Silverlake Life and Jupiter's Wife; Brian Clark, on-line media producer for Global Media Design; Liz Heller, senior vice-president of new media at Capitol Records: Adam Pincus, producer of the Sundance Channel website; and Kevin
Smith, writer/director of Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy and maven of View Askew website. The panel will be moderated by Karol Martesko, publisher of filmmaker magazine and producer of filmmag.com.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
