All the Films Fit to Review: Media Coverage and the Independent Cinema

Rather than present the usual seminar with film critics attacking and being attacked by the filmmakers, we thought a more illuminating discussion would focus on broader questions of media policy toward independent cinema: how film is viewed within the media as news, entertainment and art; on what basis stories are assigned and films reviewed and how space or airtime is allocated. "Policymakers" - editors, publishers and broadcast producers- from various media will discuss these and other issues, with our not-so-hidden agenda being the way independents can achieve greater access to print, television and radio coverage.

Participants:
Susan Lyne, editor publication director, PREMIERE - The Movie Magazine
Bob Wallace, executive editor, Rolling Stone
Jim Van Messel, senior producer, "Entertainment Tonight"
And additional panelists to be announced

Bruce R. Feldman, Moderator: Clein Feldman White, Inc.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
