Flying Cars, Robot Maids, and Revolutions

From The Time Machine to Children of Men, our best storytellers have been fixated on dystopian visions of the future, but the twenty-first century has turned out to be full of surprises. Mundane electronic devices are helping to overthrow despots, and video chats are no longer the realm of science fiction, making us wonder, “What’s next?” Camera contact lenses? Cell phone voting at election time? Hyperhumanity through regular upgrades? What will be the new Future Normal? Moderated by Joshua Topolsky (The Verge, The Washington Post) and featuring Edward James Olmos (Filly Brown, Battlestar Galactica), Rachel Grady (DETROPIA), Musa Syeed (Valley of Saints), Paul Yarin (Director of Hardware Engineering at Oblong Industries) and Bill Buxton (principal researcher at Microsoft Research).

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
