Film Forward: Puerto Rico (San Juan and Ponce)

FILM FORWARD heads to Puerto Rico for a third year collaborating with the Puerto Rico Film Society. Filmmakers Josh Penn (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Musa Syeed (Valley of Saints) join the program for five days of film screenings and discussions. All eight FILM FORWARD films will screen in Puerto Rico and new this year is the ShortsLab which will take place on Friday, June 14.

Beasts of the Southern Wild tells the story of a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee where a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphan hood. Valley of Saints is a moving drama that explores the relationship between two best friends and the female researcher, studying environmental degradation on Kashmir’s Dal Lake, who threatens to distract them from their dreams of escape.

Other films that will be screening with this program but without filmmaker representatives are: Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, Chasing Ice, The Light In Her Eyes, The Loving Story, Town of Runners, and Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna).

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
