Launched in 2011, The New York Times’s Op-Docs series invites both renowned and emerging filmmakers to contribute new short opinion documentaries reflecting a wide range of styles and subject matter, including current affairs, contemporary life and historical subjects. This special event will feature a screening of a diverse selection of Op-Docs – including world premieres by Sundance filmmakers, who have created companion shorts to their festival features. The panel will combine screenings and conversation with a collection of Op-Docs filmmakers. The discussion about their work and the unique challenges of producing online content for journalistic web sites and services like the New York Times will be hosted by Jason Spingarn-Koff, the Op-Docs series producer and curator, who will discuss the evolution of the Op-Docs initiative and how filmmakers can get involved. Introduction by Orlando Bagwell, director of the Ford Foundation’s JustFilms Initiative.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
