Interactivity and Cinema

Emerging interactive technologies are beginning to offer the film community a variety of new forms for creative expression. Beyond all the media hype regarding information highways and corporate multimedia mergers, a deeper dialogue is growing, one which focuses on the artistic possibilities and pitfalls involved in creating this new field. What is interactive narrative? What does it imply as far as the normal filmgoing experience is concerned? Is it more of a tool and/or a game than a whole new universe of storytelling? Come meet Ken Corr and Craig Southard of New Learning Project and the founders of Lucas Learning Labs, as well as the developers of almost all the interactive media projects that have been produced there. They will be joined by several prominent Hollywood writers and directors in a freewheeling discussion and analysis of the future of interactivity and the similarities and differences in creating for linear versus nonlinear/interactive formats.

As you use our Online Archives, please understand that the information presented from Festivals, Labs, and other activities is taken directly from official publications from each year. While this information is limited and doesn't necessarily represent the full list of participants (e.g. actors and crew), it is the list given to us by the main film/play/project contact at the time, based on the space restrictions of our publications. Each entry in the Online Archives is meant as a historical record of a particular film, play, or project at the time of its involvement with Sundance Institute. For this reason, we can only amend an entry if a name is misspelled, or if the entry does not correctly reflect the original publication.
