Description
This girl-meets-girl story is a romantic romp about a tomboy from the wrong side of the tracks who gets involved with one of the prettiest and most intelligent girls in her high school class. Director Maria Maggenti has fashioned a sweet, even old-fashioned story that dispels any stereotypical, timeworn bromides about lesbian love.
Randy and Evie attend the same high school, but Randy is living in an extended family of women and works in a garage, while Evie is the privileged child of bourgeois professionals. With all the pressures against them, ranging from their parents to the madcap ravings of the husband of one of Randy’s blue-collar friends, will their awkward efforts succeed? Will love find a way?
Maggenti utilizes different styles, ranging from innocence and wit to slapstick and exaggeration, in fashioning her charming, funny fable. Especially appealing are the performances of Laurel Holloman and Nicole Parker
